Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • Gel food coloring (various colors)
  • Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Combine the dry ingredients by whisking together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • Cream the butter and sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and milk until combined and smooth.
  • Add the dry ingredients slowly in two batches, mixing on low speed after each addition until the dough starts coming together but remains slightly crumbly.
  • Divide the dough into 4-5 equal portions in small bowls and add a few drops of gel food coloring to each. Gently fold in the color.
  • Create the tie dye effect by taking small pieces from each colored dough and loosely combining them into one ball-shaped dough blob. Do not overmix.
  • Roll the colored dough into 1 ½-inch balls and place them 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are lightly golden but centers remain soft.
  • Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
