  • 8 ounces dry pasta (penne or rotini work great)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional for mild heat)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for serving)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
  • Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large deep skillet or pot over medium-high heat.
  • Add diced onion and cook for about 3 minutes until it softens and turns translucent. Stir occasionally so it doesn’t brown too fast.
  • Add the minced garlic, cooking for another 30 seconds—don’t let it burn.
  • Toss in the ground turkey, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until no longer pink, around 5-7 minutes. Season now with salt and pepper.
  • Stir in dried oregano, basil, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using).
  • Add the entire can of diced tomatoes, including the juice, and pour in the chicken broth.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
  • Add your dry pasta straight into the pot and stir well.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid.
  • Let the pasta simmer for about 12-15 minutes. Stir every 4 or 5 minutes and check liquid level, adding more broth or water if needed.
  • When the pasta is al dente, give everything a good stir. Taste and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
  • Turn off the heat, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the dish, stir a bit so it melts into the sauce, and let it sit covered for 2 minutes.
