Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, freshly grated
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch, for coating chicken
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar (packed)
  • 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Instructions

  • Start by mixing the soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, honey, rice vinegar, and water in a small bowl — your sesame sauce.
  • Put the beaten eggs in one shallow bowl and cornstarch in another. Dip chicken chunks first in egg, then coat thoroughly with cornstarch.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When hot (but not smoking), add the chicken in batches without overcrowding the pan.
  • Fry each batch about 3-4 minutes, turning so all sides crisp up and chicken is cooked through. Remove to a plate lined with paper towels.
  • Lower the heat to medium and pour the prepared sesame sauce into the same pan. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly so it thickens and becomes glossy.
  • Toss the fried chicken pieces back into the skillet, stirring well to coat each piece evenly with the sauce.
  • Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions on top just before serving.
  • Notes

This easy sesame chicken recipe features crispy chicken coated in a sticky, flavorful sesame sauce with simple ingredients like soy sauce, sesame oil, and honey for a quick and delicious homemade meal.
